Songwriting in general
Consider the following statement: "Anyone can write a song." True or false?
Well, both - if you ask us! Imagine wanting to build a house: You know what a
house looks like and probably most of the material that you need to build it,
but would you live in that house afterwards? Not unless you are a contracter, I
presume.
Closer to our craft: Compare wanting to be a songwriter to an aspiring
novelist sitting in front of a computer; the tools are there (PC, word
processor, thesaurus, etc.), and the writer in theory knows all the words
necessary to write a best-selling story (hey, there are only so many words,
right?). Now what is left is to put the words together in some sort of order.
Build the story. Compose it, if you will. Not that easy, huh?
So you think you can write something that is a lot better than the complete
and utter crap you always hear on the radio? I totally agree! You can! Fact of
the matter is, though, that you can write the best damn song in the world and
still never get any acclaim for it. My guess is, the best song in the world at
the moment is sa fely
locked up at the bottom of someone's desk drawer, or worse even stored inside
someone's mind. You didn't lose your motivation already, did you? If you are
still reading this, there is hope for you! We'll try to provide you with some
tools that can further your songwriting career.
